The return mission: building bridges of trust

Soccer Access Initiative: july 2026
A single visit creates a moment of excitement, but coming back builds a bridge of trust. Returning to Casa Bernabé in July 2026 was about far more than delivering equipment...it was about honoring our promise to over 100 resilient children that they are seen, valued, and never forgotten.
Tucked into the mountainside outside Guatemala City, Casa Bernabé (The House of Comfort) provides a sanctuary for children overcoming abandonment, abuse, and neglect. Partnering once again with the dedicated team at Saving Susan Ministry, Global Soccer Access returned to where our story first began, this time with an overwhelming element of surprise!
The energy on the mountain reached a fever pitch the moment the big black bags were opened. Wide-eyed amazement turned into pure joy as each child reached in to pick out their very own custom-branded GSA soccer ball. But the excitement didn't end there: GSA also equipped the community with 100 dedicated hand pumps, placing them across every residential cottage, school ground, and pitch. By ensuring air pressure never drops, play never has to pause- keeping balls bouncing across mountain soil and filling the air with unstoppable laughter.
Without hesitation, the pitch lit up. The kids immediately put their new gear to work! Warming up, weaving through cone drills, and showcasing their skills. In a culture where girls rarely get the opportunity to play fútbol, Casa Bernabé breaks the mold: young girls stepped right onto the field, receiving their balls and running drills side-by-side with complete confidence and enthusiasm.
From classic team line-ups seated in front of the goal to electric group shots with 100 soccer balls held high in victorious high-fives, every smile captured the true heart of this mission.
Stepping back onto the pitch, we needed no introductions; only open arms, familiar faces, and fresh reasons to play. This return mission directly embodies GSA’s One Ball, One Shot promise: using sport as an immediate bridge to healing, dignity, and self-worth. Wrapped in the love and mentorship of local leaders and volunteers, these young athletes are reclaiming their childhood on the pitch... one kick at a time.
